Privacy Policy
Short version: GhostSnap processes everything locally on your Mac. No data ever leaves your device. We collect nothing.
1. Who we are
GhostSnap is a macOS application developed and distributed directly by its developer. For questions, visit our contact page.
2. Data we do not collect
GhostSnap does not collect, transmit, store on external servers, or share any of the following:
- Screenshots or images you take
- Text extracted via OCR
- Clipboard contents
- Keystrokes or keyboard input
- Usage statistics or analytics
- Crash reports
- Device identifiers or IP addresses
- Any personally identifiable information
GhostSnap makes no network connections during normal operation. There is no telemetry, no analytics SDK, and no third-party tracking of any kind.
3. What stays on your Mac
All processing happens entirely on your device. Here is what GhostSnap stores locally:
- Compressed screenshots saved to
~/Downloads/GhostSnap/compressed/ - Session history saved to
~/Downloads/GhostSnap/session.jsonso your screenshot queue survives app restarts. Contains only local file paths and selection state. - Preferences including hotkey configuration and notification settings, stored in macOS
UserDefaults(on-device, never synced to iCloud or any server).
You can delete any of this data at any time by removing the ~/Downloads/GhostSnap/ folder.
4. macOS permissions
GhostSnap requests the following macOS permissions. Each is used solely for the feature described and for no other purpose.
- Accessibility: required to detect when you press Cmd+V so GhostSnap can reset the screenshot batch. GhostSnap listens only for that specific key combination. No other keystrokes are recorded or retained.
- Screen Recording: required for the OCR text capture feature, which uses Apple's built-in
screencapturetool to let you drag-select a region. The captured image is processed locally using Apple's Vision framework (on-device machine learning) and immediately deleted after text extraction. - File System access: required to watch your screenshot save folder (typically
~/Desktopor your configured location) and to read and write compressed image files.
5. OCR and image processing
OCR (text recognition) is performed entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework. No image or extracted text is sent to any external service. The temporary capture used for OCR is deleted immediately after processing.
Image compression runs entirely on your device. No image content is transmitted anywhere.
6. Purchase and payment
GhostSnap is sold as a one-time purchase processed by a third-party payment provider. We do not handle or store your payment card details. The payment provider's own privacy policy governs any data collected during checkout. GhostSnap itself performs no license validation network requests.
7. Children's privacy
GhostSnap does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). Since we collect no data from anyone, this applies universally.
8. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Because GhostSnap collects no personal data and stores nothing on external servers, there is no personal data for us to access, rectify, export, or delete on your behalf. All data is stored locally on your device and is under your full control at all times.
If you are an EU resident and have concerns, or if you are a California resident exercising rights under the CCPA, please reach us via our contact page and we will respond promptly.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of GhostSnap after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
